Welcome to a new week of learning!
On Friday I sent home a pink paper, it was the Lion's Kite for Flight reading log. This is a great way to earn money for our school and each student that turns in their reading log gets a prize.
SEP week is next week, appointments went home last week. Please return your slip letting me know if the time works or doesn't work. Progress Reports also went home, look over, sign and return to school.
Curriculum News:
- Literacy - Spelling test this week. Scholars need to get at least an 9/12 to move to the next pattern. This week in poetry scholars are reading the poem "Harlem", dissecting figurative language, reading the poem "What Makes America Sing" by Walt Whitman and will be writing their own poem on what makes our school sing.
- Math - Monday's lesson 7.7, add and subtract mixed numbers. Tuesday and Wednesday's lesson 7.8, subtracting mixed and improper fractions with regrouping. Thursday's lesson 7.9, properties of addition with fractions. Friday's lesson 7.10, multistep fraction problems.
- Science - Notes from Ms. Soriano: Last week, we were able to DIY some tools that meteorologists use to track the weather! We used thermometers to measure the temperature outside and inside, we made rain gauges to measure precipitation, we made weather vanes to identify the direction of the wind, and we made anemometers to find the speed of the wind. This week we are going to putting these tools to use and comparing them to Cedar City's daily forecasts!
