Happy SEP Week! I am looking forward to meeting with each of you and your scholar and discussing their progress. Remember that school gets out each day at 2:30, even on Wednesday. The Book Fair will be going on in the gym after school until 5 Monday - Thursday.
Can you believe it's February? We have a book report due on the 15th and I will be assigning a Biography report the following week.
Pictures below of when the CMS band visited our school last week, Reading Lunch Club and our Spelling Bee representatives from our class.
Curriculum News:
- Literacy - New spelling patterns are coming home today, we will have a spelling test in two weeks. Scholars need to get at least 8/12 in order to move to the next pattern. I also give them an activity to do with their words on the Monday they get their new words, they have two weeks to complete the assignment. Scholars are still working in Unit 3 of CKLA, Poetry. Scholars read the poem, "I Hear America Singing" by Walt Whitman. We then went on a walk around the school and scholars are writing a poem titled, "I Hear My School Singing". They will be typing these poems.
- Math - Monday's lesson 7.10, problem solving with multi-steps of adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers. Tuesday's lesson, we will be reviewing Chapter 7. Wednesday we will test on Chapter 7. Thursday we will go over the test and have an introduction to Chapter 8, Chapter 8 scholars will be able to multiply fractions by whole numbers. Friday's lesson 8.1, multiples of unit fractions (a unit is always a 1)
- Science - Weather Unit and notes from Ms. Soriano: These scholars have gotten so great at tracking the pieces of the weather. It's so fun to see how accurate our DIY tools can be! This week, in addition to weather tracking, we will be wrapping up our weather unit with a fun thunderstorm art project inspired by artist Jackson Pollock. Our test will be this Friday afternoon!
