Mrs. Komarek's Busy Bees: February 18

Dear Parents,

I hope you enjoyed the three day weekend. I know that there has been a lot of sickness going around, I too have been under the weather. I hope these three days we were all able to rest and get well!

Biography Report went home last week. This research report isn't optional, wanting to enter it into the Son's of Utah Pioneer Essay Contest is. It is due March 5th.

We will be taking Mid-Year Summative Assessments this week in all of our subjects.

We had a great President's Assembly on Friday. Mrs. Davis, our art teacher, has been selected as Outstanding Art Teacher in the state of Utah! We are so lucky to have her in our school!

Progress Reports will be coming home this week. If you notice in "Important Dates", end of 3rd term is approaching quickly. All late and missing assignments need to be turned in by March 6th.

Curriculum News:

Literacy - New Word Study words will be coming home on Wednesday, remember that we work with the patterns for two weeks. These patterns are to help them with their spelling. Scholars will finish up their Poetry Unit this week. They have written and read some great poems during this unit.
Math - Tuesday's lesson will be a continuation of 8.4, multiplying a whole number by a mixed number. Wednesday's lesson 8.5, problem solving. Thursday we will review Chapter 8 and Friday we will test. Our next math Chapter will focus on relating fractions and decimals.
Science - We have started Standard 3, Rocks and Soils. Along with this science unit we will be Unit 6, Geology of CKLA. Scholars will be reading and investigating all about our fascinating Earth!
