November 26 - December 2, 2018

Dear Parents,

The holidays are upon us, which is very exciting!  We do have lots of curriculum that we are working on and will continue until the end of the quarter!

Reading Logs this week will be for only Monday through Thursday, 80 minutes of reading time required.

Progress Reports will be coming home this week, missing assignments will be highlighted.  All late work will need to be turned in December 14th.

Reading Lunch Club will eat together this Friday. :)

New home assignment for the month of December is coming home this week.  This is by far my most favorite home assignment of the year!  Scholars will be memorizing the poem, "Twas the Night Before Christmas".  We will be working on this in class, but the bulk of memorization will need to happen at home.  Scholars will have a copy of the poem at school and at home.  I will be sending home information and the poem today.

Curriculum News:

  • Literacy - We are still in unit 2 of CKLA, the Middle Ages of Europe.  This week scholars will be reading about King Henry II.  Scholars will be writing an opinion piece of who they would rather be in the Middle Ages, grammar and sentence structure.  We will also start work on the poem, "Twas the Night Before Christmas".  Spelling words went home last week, we won't have a spelling test until next week.
  • Math - Monday's lesson - 5.3, reviewing factors and divisibility rules and problem solving.  Tuesday's lesson - 5.4, review and factors and multiples.  Wednesday's lesson 5.5, prime and composite numbers.  Thursday's lesson - 5.6, algebra with number patterns.  Friday's we will review.  Monday we will review and test on Chapter 5.  Please continue to work on times tables.  I am seeing improvements, but please continue to work on them at home.
  • Science - We will finish up our Standard 5 unit this week with a closer look at spiders, review, and test.  Our next unit of study will be Standard 1, the water cycle.
Groups making insects from food.  The insects needed to have all the correct body parts and scholars had to tell me the adaptations of the insect that they built.
